The siege of 1684 - Vauban in Luxembourg

From 1681, Louis XIV's troops blockaded the fortress of Luxembourg. At Christmas 1683, the city was bombarded for several days. It was not until the end of April 1684 that Marshal Créqui's siege began. After six weeks of intense fighting, the Spanish garrison was forced to capitulate. Vauban learned the lessons of this siege and reinforced the fortress on the surrounding plateaux.
