In addition to the four Kirchberg forts, there are other significant military buildings in the surrounding area. In 1684/85, Vauban oversaw the construction of the Hoehl gate (Hiehlepaart) to defend the narrow, transverse Alzette valley through which passed the former route to Trier (now rue des Trois Glands). A crenellated wall ran between the Niedergrünewald fort and the Obergrünewald fort.
The 'Austrians' built a flour store below the Hoehl gate and this is still almost perfectly preserved.
The Prussians built the Judenturm (Malakoff Tower) in 1860-61 to secure the Weimershof gate in the open area between Thüngen and Fort Parkhöhe.
