A succession of nine casemates each showcases a period of the Fortress's past through the history of Luxembourg, setting off in the Middle Ages with the capture of the city by the Burgundians in 1443 and ending with the construction of the Adolphe bridge in 1903.
Some 600 objects and documents are on display, testifying to breadth of the museum's collections. A special space houses historical photographs showing the Fortress before and during its dismantling.
However, the historical redoubt itself can be considered the highlight of the exhibit. The spectacular system of underground galleries and mines have largely been conserved in the same condition as during the last phase of its construction, in 1836-37.
The Fortress in a few clicks: a multimedia space invites visitors to browse an interactive database and a range of audiovisual resources, providing more information on subjects covered in the museum.
Audio guides are available in German, French, English and Luxembourgish.
Video tours of the permanent exhibition in French and German are offered for each casemate!
