From 1843 to 1867, part of the former Abbey of Echternach was used as barracks by a battalion of chasseurs from the Federal Contingent. Illustrated by numerous graphic documents, the lecture-projection will look at the installation, the life of the officers and soldiers, the riot of 1848, the manoeuvres and the encounters between soldiers and civilians. Writers such as M. Z. G. Werner, Nicolas Gonner, C. M. Spoo, Dicks and Victor Hugo have all written about this friendly, peace-loving operetta army.
