The origins of the Rousegäertchen

Promenades architecturales du dimanche

The square known as Rousegäertchen underwent late urban development. Planned under the name of Place de l'Étoile, its development gave rise to lengthy discussions. For years, it was used as a depot for building materials. Why was the site finally laid out as a formal garden? What were its neighbours like? Where did the square get its name? Why was an underground car park built here? What contribution has it made to the local rose tradition?
