The uniform of the federal contingent is inspired by the Royal Netherlands Army, but is produced in Luxembourg. Local uniform production is intended to give new impetus to the Grand Duchy's cloth-making industry, whose tradition dates back to the 18th century. The production and delivery of the large quantities of cloth posed enormous challenges for the small factories in Luxembourg, Wiltz, Esch-Sauer, Vianden, Echternach and Fels. After a few years, production met military requirements and continued beyond the disbandment of the Jäger battalions until the end of the 19th century. Uniforms, jackets, fabric samples, portraits and lithographs trace this development.
