Until the invention of the sewing machine in the mid-nineteenth century, sewing and repairing uniforms was purely manual work. Army soldiers' uniforms were therefore also made by hand, which made the process time-consuming and costly. The clothes were then repaired instead of being thrown away, as is often the case today. If your favourite garment is damaged, bring it back to take part in an interactive workshop where you can discover new darning techniques. You'll learn more about the history of sewing, while mending your clothes in a decorative and attractive way so that you can use them for years to come. No sewing knowledge is necessary to take part in this workshop.
