The life of officer Louis-Alphonse Munchen (1819- 1881) captures this turbulent time like few others. His career may be shaped by revolution, nation-building and military organisation, but his story is one of family, friendships and personal loss. Through Munchen’s estate, previously unseen and some familiar artefacts from our collections and prestigious loans, the exhibi- tion brings to life the human stories behind the societal and military challenges of 19th-century Luxembourg.
