The siege of 1684 - Vauban in Luxembourg

From 1681 onwards, Louis XIV’s troops laid siege to the fortress of Luxembourg. At Christmas 1683, the town was bombarded for several days. It was not until the end of April 1684 that Marshal Créqui’s siege began. After six weeks of intense fighting, the Spanish garrison was forced to surrender. Vauban learnt from this siege and reinforced the fortress on the surrounding plateaus.
